Best Copy Trading Platforms in Australia (2026)

I keep coming back to eToro's CopyTrader as the best copy trading platform in Australia: it gives you the largest pool of verified lead traders we track across 32 brokers, and there is no separate copy fee layered on top. If raw spreads and AU-headquartered execution matter more to you, Pepperstone's cTrader Copy is the one I would point you toward. Both run under an ASIC AFSL, and the field also includes ZuluTrade, Myfxbook AutoTrade and DupliTrade through partner brokers.

Quick verdict: copy trading platforms in Australia

I'd put eToro first for copy trading in Australia: CopyTrader and Smart Portfolios are built in, and you pay no separate copy fee. Pepperstone cTrader Copy is my pick if you're copying on raw spreads, and ZuluTrade opens the largest external signal pool through Eightcap and other supported AU brokers. Every platform here sits under an ASIC-regulated broker, which matters for your protection.

  1. eToro CopyTrader: most developed copy product, no fee.
  2. Pepperstone cTrader Copy: copying on raw spreads.
  3. ZuluTrade: largest external signal pool.
  4. MyFXBook AutoTrade: verified track records on MetaTrader.
  5. DupliTrade: curated, institutional-feel copying.
  6. FP Markets: cTrader Copy on a multi-asset book.
  7. IC Markets: copy on the Raw Spread feed.
  8. Fusion Markets: cheapest account to copy on.
  9. GO Markets: copy plus Signal Centre research.
  10. AvaTrade: AvaSocial and DupliTrade together.

Half this list is a platform, half is the broker account underneath it. Both layers are reviewed below, and I have ordered them so the platform-first options surface the largest lead-trader pools, while the broker accounts that follow offer raw-spread execution on the same copy engine.

How we ranked: copy fee model, lead-trader pool and the spread underneath, compared across every ASIC-available copy route.Full methodology ↓

eToro covers most use cases. The rest matter for traders who specifically want raw spreads, cTrader Copy, MT4 integration, a proprietary social layer, or a smaller curated lead-trader pool. If copy trading isn’t your deciding factor, our guide to the highest-rated forex brokers in Australia ranks the whole market.

Watch: Best forex copy trading brokers.

Every option above sits under an ASIC AFSL through one or more of the brokers listed, each an AFCA member. ASIC’s Product Intervention Order leverage caps (30:1 on major forex pairs) apply to copy trades exactly as they apply to manual trades, so a lead trader’s published return might reflect leverage you cannot legally access; our ASIC regulation guide has the full ladder.

Risk warning: CFDs are leveraged products and carry a high risk of loss. Most retail CFD accounts lose money. Review the broker's PDS and TMD before trading.

Dedicated copy trading platforms and signal networks

1. eToro CopyTrader: the AU default

eToro's CopyTrader is the best copy trading platform in Australia, with the largest pool of verified lead traders in our 32-broker coverage and no separate copy fee: copiers pay through the spread while lead traders earn a Popular Investor commission from eToro itself. A minimum USD 200 allocation applies per copied trader, up to 100 traders can be copied at once, and the Copy Stop-Loss defaults to 40 percent of the allocated amount. Smart Portfolios add eToro-curated thematic baskets from USD 500 with no management fees. eToro AUS Capital Limited has held ASIC AFSL 491139 since 2017.

ASIC AFSL 491139

Why higher here? Platform Fit on this page is about copy trading, where eToro leads: the largest lead-trader pool here, CopyTrader and Smart Portfolios, and no separate copy fee. Its #29 sitewide score reflects costs across the whole site, not its copy product. See the ranking method ↓

Pros & Cons
  • ASIC AFSL 491139 since 2017; Tier-1 regulation also via FCA (UK) and CySEC (Cyprus)
  • CopyTrader and Smart Portfolios, the most developed social trading product in the industry
  • Real share investing across US, AU, UK and EU exchanges at a flat USD 2 per trade, ETFs 0%
  • Account defaults to USD; an AUD account is available only to eligible AU clients, otherwise every deposit and withdrawal converts, with conversion fees on AUD funding
  • No MT4, no MT5, no cTrader, no TradingView trading
  • Forex spreads (EUR/USD from 1.0 pip) wider than RAW brokers like Pepperstone or IC Markets
Broker's Detail

Founded in Tel Aviv in 2007 and operating in Australia since 2018 under AFSL 491139, eToro is the world's largest social trading platform with 30M+ registered users globally. That scale gives it the deepest lead-trader pool we cover, and the Popular Investor programme incentivises consistency in a way an open marketplace does not. The group also holds FCA (UK), CySEC (Cyprus) and FinCEN (US) regulation.

eToro's proprietary platform supports both forex/CFD trading and direct share investing with zero commission across US, AU, UK and EU exchanges. CopyTrader lets you automatically replicate other traders' positions; Smart Portfolios bundle thematic baskets. With no MT4, MT5, cTrader or TradingView support, anyone who considers those platforms essential should skip to Pepperstone or the cTrader Copy brokers below.

Account currency is USD only, so AUD funding converts at deposit and withdrawal and your copied trades carry a running FX exposure on top of the strategy risk. $50 USD minimum deposit; funding via card, PayPal, bank transfer and select e-wallets. Retail leverage capped at ASIC's maximum on major pairs, with AFCA dispute coverage standard.

2. Pepperstone cTrader Copy: best for raw-spread forex

Pepperstone's cTrader Copy is the pick for copying on raw spreads: strategies fill on Razor pricing at A$3.50 per side commission, so the copier's cost base matches what the lead trader actually trades on, with AU-headquartered execution behind it. cTrader Copy is built into the cTrader platform, and cTrader Automate sits alongside for traders who graduate from copying to coding. Pepperstone has held ASIC AFSL 414530 since 2013.

Pros & Cons
  • ASIC AFSL 414530 since 2013; founded in Melbourne in 2010 with continuing Australian operations
  • Razor RAW account with EUR/USD spreads from 0.0 pips and AUD 7 round-turn per lot
  • Five trading platform options (MT4, MT5, cTrader, TradingView, Pepperstone Platform)
  • Share CFD range narrower than CMC, IG, IBKR (around 1,200 vs 10,000+ at CMC)
  • No native ASX share investing (CFD only)
  • Standard account spreads less competitive than the Razor account; choose Razor if you trade actively
Broker's Detail

Founded in Melbourne in 2010, Pepperstone is one of Australia's largest forex brokers and has held ASIC AFSL 414530 since 2013, so for a copy trader your execution and support sit under the same ASIC entity, not routed through an offshore arm. It also holds Tier-1 licences with the FCA (UK), BaFin (Germany), CySEC (Cyprus), CMA (Kenya) and DFSA (Dubai).

Two main account types are offered. The Razor (RAW) account pairs EUR/USD spreads from 0.0 pips with AUD 7 round-turn commission per standard lot, which aligns your costs with the strategy provider's published results when copying. The Standard account is commission-free with EUR/USD from roughly 1.1 pips. Supported platforms run to five: MT4, MT5, cTrader, TradingView and the Pepperstone Trading Platform, and TradingView is available on the Razor account only, not on Standard.

Funding is fee-free via PayID, BPAY, card and PayPal, and AUD-denominated accounts mean no currency conversion erodes your copy trading balance before you allocate it. Retail leverage capped at ASIC's maximum on major pairs, with negative balance protection and AFCA dispute coverage standard. Customer support runs 24/7 by live chat.

3. ZuluTrade: largest external signal pool

ZuluTrade is the largest external signal marketplace on this list, connecting follower accounts to signal providers rather than running its own brokerage. Australian traders reach it through partner brokers, and Eightcap, AvaTrade and FP Markets are the ASIC-regulated routes in our coverage that list ZuluTrade copy-trading integration for clients who want to follow signal providers. Because trades execute inside the partner account, spreads and commission follow the broker’s own pricing rather than a ZuluTrade fee schedule, and the follower keeps broker-level protections, since the money never leaves the ASIC-regulated account, a structure I consider a key safety feature.

The trade-off is quality variance. Without a curated framework like eToro’s Popular Investor program, the choice is from a wider but more uneven pool. ZuluTrade’s own ranking system uses a “ZuluRank” score that weights stability, drawdown and consistency. Use it as a filter rather than a recommendation, and never treat a high ZuluRank alone as a reason to allocate.

Pricing is structured around per-lot fees on copied trades, plus the broker’s own spread or commission. That stacks costs in a way you don’t see on eToro, and a strategy that looks profitable before fees can turn marginal once both layers are deducted from your copy account.

Signal quality is uneven. Per-lot fees plus broker spreads add up. Some lead traders run high-leverage martingale strategies that look good on a 6-month track record and blow up in month 7. Read the strategy’s risk profile before allocating, and if the drawdown history is not disclosed, I would treat that as a reason to walk away.

4. MyFXBook AutoTrade: verified-track-record MT4/MT5 copy

Myfxbook AutoTrade grew out of the Myfxbook analytics community, and verified track records are its calling card: the performance data behind each system comes from the same account-tracking service many traders already use to audit their own results. Like the other platforms here, AutoTrade executes through partner brokers rather than holding client money itself. Availability is the catch for Australians: the brokers in our coverage that carry AutoTrade run it through offshore entities rather than their ASIC-regulated arms, so no AU retail route is confirmed in our current 32-broker set, a gap I consider significant.

In Australia, AutoTrade integrates with brokers offering MT4 or MT5, including FP Markets (AFSL 286354) and Eightcap (AFSL 391441). Our Vantage review notes its copy trading runs through offshore entities rather than the ASIC-regulated Australian arm, so it is not listed here as an AutoTrade host. The pool is smaller than ZuluTrade but the verification layer is meaningful, and I value a verified track record over a larger pool of unaudited signals.

Costs are typically a per-lot fee or a subscription set by the strategy provider, plus the broker’s own spread/commission, so the headline return you see on a strategy rarely matches what lands in your copy account.

Verified track record doesn’t mean future performance. Some MyFXBook strategies have very high leverage in their backtests; live results can differ. Read the system’s drawdown history, not just the headline return, because a deep drawdown that later recovered still stings if your copy allocation experiences it in its first month.

5. DupliTrade: curated, institutional-feel copy

DupliTrade is the curated option: a small, vetted stable of strategy providers with an institutional flavour, rather than an open marketplace of thousands of signal sellers. It connects to a live account at a partner broker, and AvaTrade is the confirmed Australian route, integrating DupliTrade alongside its own AvaSocial product under ASIC AFSL 406684. AvaTrade’s review describes DupliTrade as the more analytical of its two copy options, and I’d say it’s suited to traders who want fewer, better-documented strategies to follow rather than a social feed.

The curation filters out the lowest-quality providers automatically. The cost is fewer choices and higher minimums (typically AUD 2,000+ to start copying a single provider), so you should treat each copy allocation as a serious position, not a trial.

Smaller pool again. Higher minimum allocation. Past performance is still not future performance even with curation. The vetting reduces one category of risk but does not remove market risk, and I would still size a DupliTrade allocation the same way I would any other copy strategy: small enough that a full drawdown does not change the month.

Broker copy trading accounts in Australia

Beyond eToro, Pepperstone and the three third-party networks, six more ASIC-regulated brokers host copy trading inside their own accounts. Each is ranked here on copy tooling, underlying cost and broker safety. Four run cTrader Copy, the copy system built into the cTrader platform; AvaTrade adds a proprietary social layer through AvaSocial, and Trade Nation brings its own TradeCopier app. I have ordered them so the cheaper cTrader Copy accounts sit highest.

6. FP Markets cTrader Copy: the all-round cTrader host

FP Markets runs cTrader Copy inside its cTrader platform, giving followers raw-pricing execution at US$3.00 per side on cTrader accounts. In my view, the appeal is the account around the copying: the same login reaches MT4, MT5 and TradingView, plus IRESS for direct ASX share dealing, so copy trading can sit beside a wider portfolio rather than in a separate silo. cTrader Automate is available when a follower wants to turn observed strategies into coded ones. First Prudential Markets has held ASIC AFSL 286354 since 2005.

Broker's Detail

Founded in 2005 and regulated by ASIC under AFSL 286354, FP Markets is one of Australia's longer-established forex and CFD brokers, and that longevity through multiple regulatory cycles is something I weigh when client money sits behind a copy trading account. Copy trading runs through cTrader Copy on the cTrader platform, sitting alongside MT4, MT5 and TradingView. Strategy providers set their own subscription or profit-share terms.

The Raw account carries raw interbank spreads with a per-lot commission, which keeps your cost base aligned with the strategy provider's own execution when copy trading; the Standard account is commission-free with wider spreads. Retail leverage is capped at ASIC's maximum on major pairs, with negative balance protection and AFCA dispute coverage standard. A$100 minimum deposit.

7. IC Markets cTrader Copy: copying on the Raw Spread feed

IC Markets integrates cTrader Copy with its cTrader account, where billing runs at US$3.00 per side per US$100,000 traded and pricing mirrors the Raw Spread feed that measured 0.11 pips on EUR/USD in our September 2026 capture. Copied strategies run on the same execution stack as everything else at IC Markets, though we hold no execution measurement for the broker. I'd argue that tight underlying pricing makes performance figures easier to sustain after costs. Clause 12.24(g) of IC Markets' Account Terms states the broker accepts no liability for the use of any automated trading strategies, including copy trading, as set out in IC Markets' automated trading terms. IC Markets has held ASIC AFSL 335692 since 2009.

Broker's Detail

Founded in 2007 and regulated by ASIC under AFSL 335692 since 2009, IC Markets is one of the largest cTrader brokers serving Australian clients. Copy trading runs through cTrader Copy; the platform line-up is MT4, MT5 and cTrader. Strategy providers set their own fees.

The Raw Spread account pairs raw interbank pricing with A$4.50-per-side commission, or A$9.00 round turn, which is worth factoring in if your copied strategy generates frequent trades. Retail leverage is capped at ASIC's maximum on major pairs, with negative balance protection and AFCA dispute coverage standard. A$200 minimum deposit.

8. Fusion Markets cTrader Copy: the lowest-cost account to copy on

Fusion Markets pairs the Zero account's A$2.25 per side commission (A$4.50 round turn) with EUR/USD raw spreads that measured 0.01 pips in our September 2026 capture, ranking first of the 11 raw accounts we measured. MQL5 Signals covers MT4 and MT5 for followers outside the cTrader ecosystem. The AU entity boundary matters: DupliTrade and Fusion+ Copy Trading exist only through Fusion's offshore Vanuatu entity and are not available to Australian clients, so cTrader Copy is the ASIC-regulated route. Fusion has traded under AFSL 385620 since its 2017 launch; the FMGP Trading Group licence dates to 2011.

Strategy providers set their own terms.

The Zero account pairs raw spreads with A$4.50 round-turn commission. DupliTrade and Fusion+ Copy Trading are offered only through the offshore Vanuatu entity, so Australian retail clients use cTrader Copy. 9. GO Markets cTrader Copy: copy trading plus Signal Centre research

GO Markets pairs cTrader Copy Trading with one of the longest continuous ASIC histories on this page, under AFSL 254963. Followers execute on GO Plus+ pricing, which measured 0.09 pips on EUR/USD with A$3.00 per side commission (A$6.00 round turn) in our September 2026 capture. For signal-style following rather than full copy trading, the MT4 and MT5 built-in Signals services and the premium Signal Centre feeds are also on the menu. Broker's Detail

GO Markets says it launched in 2006, ASIC-regulated under AFSL 254963 from its Melbourne base. For copy trading, I'd say the blend of cTrader Copy, MT4 and MT5 Signals, and Signal Centre research gives you more than a mirroring tool, you get access to trading ideas and analysis on the same account. TradingView is also available. Strategy providers set their own fees, so the cost of copying a particular trader sits on top of your spreads and commissions.

With the GO Plus+ account you get raw spreads and a straightforward A$6.00 round-turn commission. Retail leverage sits at ASIC's maximum on major pairs, plus negative balance protection and AFCA dispute coverage, standard for Australian brokers but worth confirming. The A$200 minimum deposit is accessible. I'd say the pricing is clean and easy to compare, which I appreciate.

10. AvaTrade: AvaSocial and DupliTrade on one account

AvaTrade is the only broker on this list that gives you two copy trading routes side by side. AvaSocial is its own mobile-first social-copy app, and DupliTrade (the more analytical of the pair, as we describe in our review) is a curated third-party service. I think that makes AvaTrade the natural home for a trader who wants to compare a social-feed experience against a curated strategy stable without switching brokers. Pricing is spread-only, so there's no separate commission account. Ava Capital Markets Australia has operated under AFSL 406684 since 2011, with AFCA membership and ASIC-mandated negative balance protection.

Broker's Detail

If you're looking for a broker with a long track record, AvaTrade fits the bill, founded in 2006 and regulated in Australia since 2011 under AFSL 406684. For copy trading, it's one of the few offering both a proprietary social-copy app (AvaSocial) and a curated third-party service (DupliTrade). MT4 and MT5 are also supported alongside AvaTrade's own apps.

Pricing is spread-only on the standard account, with EUR/USD advertised from around 0.8 pips. There's no separate copy commission, so the cost is built into the spread. Retail leverage is capped at ASIC's maximum on major pairs, with negative balance protection and AFCA dispute coverage. The inactivity fee is a point I'd watch: USD 50 per quarter of dormancy and a USD 100 administration fee after twelve months. Minimum deposit is A$100.

11. Trade Nation TradeCopier: copy trading on the MT4 account

Trade Nation's TradeCopier runs as a free iOS and Android app. Allocation control is granular: you set the method by equity, balance or lot size. TradeCopier connects to your Trade Nation MT4 account, which is the variable-spread account at around 1.0 pip on EUR/USD, so TN Trader's fixed spreads never reach your copied trades.

Copy trading runs through the TradeCopier app, which connects to your MT4 account on variable spreads of around 1.0 pip on EUR/USD, with no separate copy commission and sizing by equity, balance or lot. I'd call it a sensible pick if you want a simple spread-only cost and an app-based setup.

Copy trading uses TradeCopier, the broker's own iOS and Android app, and it connects to the MT4 account rather than the proprietary TN Trader platform. Position sizing is by equity, balance or lot.

Copied trades run on the MT4 account, where EUR/USD averages around 1.0 pip on variable spreads, and there is no separate copy commission beyond the spread. Retail leverage is capped at ASIC's maximum on major pairs, and you're covered by negative balance protection and AFCA dispute resolution. The A$0 minimum deposit and no inactivity fee make the barrier to entry low. I'd say the costs are easy to understand before you copy anyone, which suits beginners.

How copy trading works

Copy trading automatically replicates another trader’s moves. Allocate a portion of the account to a lead trader, and the platform mirrors each new trade they open, scaled to that allocation. When the lead closes the trade, the copy closes too.

Three things distinguish copy trading from related concepts.

Copy trading vs social trading. Think of social trading as the umbrella: traders can see other traders’ positions and decisions, but copying is optional. Copy trading is the automated part inside that world. eToro is both; most ZuluTrade-connected brokers are copy-only.

Copy trading vs managed accounts. A managed account (PAMM, MAM) gives a manager full discretion over your funds, which in Australia typically requires an AFSL with managed discretionary account (MDA) authorisation. Copy trading is different, it copies only the signals you authorise, and you can pause or stop at any time. ASIC treats discretion-based managed accounts as a higher-regulated activity, so the legal distinction matters.

Copy trading vs EAs and signals. An Expert Advisor is automated code running on your MT4 or MT5 terminal. A signal service sends alerts you act on manually. Copy trading sits between them, with the broker’s infrastructure doing the replicating, no coding required on your end.

ASIC framework: how copy trading is regulated in Australia

One thing most generic copy trading guides skip is ASIC’s specific view on copy and managed-discretionary trading, and it matters for any Australian trader using these platforms.

The general rule: if a lead trader has discretion over the funds in your account, that’s a managed discretionary account (MDA) under ASIC’s framework, requiring the operator to hold an AFSL with MDA authorisation. ASIC’s INFO 134 and Regulatory Guide 175 cover this. A naive copy setup where someone else trades your money on their decisions could fall foul if not structured carefully.

eToro’s CopyTrader is built so that you authorise the platform to copy specific Popular Investors you choose, and you can pause or stop at any time. The Popular Investor never gets direct discretion over your account. Combined with eToro’s AFSL 491139 and standardised program rules, that places the activity outside the strict MDA framework. Pepperstone’s cTrader Copy uses similar reasoning.

Third-party signal networks like ZuluTrade, MyFXBook AutoTrade and DupliTrade also rely on your authorisation to copy specific signals, plus the broker’s AFSL. The broker handles execution and the regulatory wrapper, so the signal provider isn’t your discretionary manager in the legal sense.

In 2026, ASIC hasn’t moved against any of these brokers specifically over copy trading, but I wouldn’t treat that as a permanent guarantee. The regulator has raised concerns about high-risk copying before. So if you’re putting serious money into a copy strategy, I’d urge you to read the broker’s PDS and the platform’s terms thoroughly.

The retail leverage caps under the PIO apply to copy trades just like manual trades. A lead trader can’t access higher leverage on your behalf than you’d get trading directly. Negative balance protection and the 50% margin close-out rule both still apply.

Risks of copy trading

Copy trading exposes you to all the usual risks of leveraged CFDs, plus a few extras worth flagging.

Past performance is not predictive. Plenty of strategies look great over a six-month window but are hiding high leverage, martingale sizing, or short-volatility plays that can blow up in a single bad week. ASIC’s broader research on retail loss rates applies just as much to copy trading.

Copying mistakes is part of the deal. A lead trader’s misread produces the same loss for your account, scaled to your allocation. Copy trading amplifies decisions, good or bad.

Lead-trader incentives can misalign. I’d be cautious about performance-fee structures that pay the lead trader on profits without clawback on losses. That setup can incentivise high-variance trading that benefits the lead trader at your expense. eToro’s Popular Investor model is designed to mitigate this, but some third-party signal sites aren’t.

Broker dependency. Because copy trading runs inside the broker’s platform, your strategy is only as reliable as their infrastructure. An outage pauses copying. If the lead trader’s account is closed, the strategy disappears. If the broker delists the platform, you may need to rebuild from scratch.

Currency and rounding effects. Copying scales the lead trader’s position size to your allocation. On a small account, rounding can cause your return to drift from the lead’s reported figure. A 10% allocation on a 0.01-lot lead trade might not create a tradable position at all.

The mitigation playbook. I’d suggest spreading your capital across several lead traders rather than betting on a single star. Only allocate what you can afford to lose. Read drawdown history, not just the return. And hit pause to reassess after major losses.

Tax treatment of copy trading profits

The ATO generally treats CFD trading profits as assessable income under TR 2005/15. Since copy trading runs on CFDs (or, with eToro, a mix of CFDs and direct stocks), the same framework applies: profits are taxed at your marginal rate, and losses are typically deductible against other assessable income.

eToro throws in an extra twist because it offers direct stocks and crypto alongside CFDs. The tax treatment for those non-CFD products can differ, capital gains tax might apply to direct stock holdings instead of income tax. Your year-end statement should break out the categories, which helps.

Obviously, we’re not licensed to give tax advice. I’d strongly suggest speaking to a registered tax agent about your situation, especially if your copy trading activity is large relative to your other income.

How to choose a copy trading platform

A short framework based on what you want.

For a new copy trader wanting the smoothest experience, I’d point to eToro CopyTrader. The Popular Investor program, curation, no extra fees, and the platform’s user experience are all built with beginners in mind.

Raw spreads on the underlying trades make Pepperstone cTrader Copy the way to go. You get Razor pricing with copy on top.

If you want the largest pool of signal providers, ZuluTrade through Eightcap (or another supported AU broker) gives you the selection.

If you need verified MT4 or MT5 track records, MyFXBook AutoTrade through FP Markets or Eightcap is the route I’d suggest.

If you want a curated institutional-feel option: DupliTrade through AvaTrade or ACY.

FAQs

Is copy trading legal in Australia?
Yes. Copy trading is legal when offered by an ASIC-regulated broker holding an AFSL, as eToro (491139), Pepperstone (414530) and the ZuluTrade, MyFXBook AutoTrade and DupliTrade brokers all do. You retain authorisation rather than handing a third party full discretion, which matters if you ever need to stop a trade immediately.
Which is the best copy trading platform for Australian beginners?
eToro CopyTrader. The Popular Investor program filters out weaker lead traders, there's no separate copy fee, AUD funding is supported, and the mobile app is built around social trading. Most AU beginners should start there, and I would point a new trader to it before any other option on this page.
Can I make money copy trading?
Yes, some do, in some periods. ASIC research on retail CFD loss rates suggests most retail traders lose money over 12 months, and copy trading doesn't change that. Past performance is not predictive. Allocate what you can afford to lose, and treat any return you see on a strategy's track record as a possibility, not a promise.
Do I have to pay a fee to copy a trader on eToro?
No, eToro doesn't charge a separate copier fee. The lead trader (Popular Investor) is paid by eToro based on assets under copy. eToro's revenue comes from the spread on the underlying trades, so the cost is built into normal trading and you are not paying an extra line item to follow someone.
What's the minimum amount to start copy trading?
Varies by platform. eToro requires AUD 200 minimum to copy a single Popular Investor. Pepperstone cTrader Copy minimums are set per strategy. ZuluTrade and MyFXBook AutoTrade vary by broker. DupliTrade typically requires AUD 2,000 or more per strategy, which pushes it out of reach if you are testing the water with a small allocation.
Is copy trading the same as a managed account?
No. A managed account (PAMM, MAM or full MDA) gives a manager direct discretion over your funds and usually requires MDA authorisation. Copy trading instead replicates a lead trader's signals under your authorisation; you retain control and can stop anytime, which is the distinction I want every reader to understand before they allocate.
Can a lead trader use higher leverage than I'd be allowed?
No. ASIC's Product Intervention Order leverage caps apply to your account, not the lead trader's, so copied positions are always constrained by your own retail caps. That means a strategy's effective return can shift the moment it is clipped to your limit.
Is copy trading good for beginners?
Yes, copy trading lets beginners access strategies they could not build themselves, but it does not remove the risk of loss. eToro's Popular Investor program screens lead traders before they can be copied and requires no separate copy fee, which is why I point most Australian beginners there first.
