About me
I’m Noam Korbl. I co-founded CompareForexBrokers with Justin in 2014. We’d both been trading forex since we were teenagers in Melbourne — long enough to remember dial-up spreads of five to eight pips on EUR/USD and the era when a “trading platform” meant software you installed off a CD-ROM. The site started from the same frustration: every broker comparison page on the open web was written for affiliate revenue rather than for the trader sitting down at the screen.
Eleven years on, the editorial split between Justin and me has settled into something clean. Justin runs the broker testing, the rating model, and the comparison content. I run the education and trading-strategy side — the explainers, the strategy walk-throughs, and the foundation pieces that a new trader actually needs before they open a live account. We share fact-checking duties with David Levy, our Head of Content.
I trade my own account in the same way most readers will: medium-frequency swing trades on majors, AUD pairs over-represented because that’s the part of the market I know best. I don’t run a fund, don’t sell signals, and don’t take payment to mention a strategy or platform in any explainer on the site.
Why I focus on education
Most of the friction for a new retail trader in Australia isn’t choosing a broker. It’s understanding what they’re choosing between. What 30:1 leverage actually means when you’re sitting on a 0.25-lot EUR/USD position. Why a stop-loss order is not the same as a guaranteed stop. What “negative balance protection” does and does not cover. Why a 5% drawdown looks small until you understand the maths behind risk of ruin.
The bar I set for an education explainer on this site is plain: a smart trader who has never opened a forex account should be able to read a page once and use the concept correctly the same week. Where the topic is complex (chart patterns, hedging, margin maths) the page goes longer. Where the topic is genuinely simple, the page stays short. We don’t pad to hit a word count.
Everything on the education side is framed for the Australian regulatory context. ASIC’s Product Intervention Order shapes how leverage, margin, bonuses and dispute resolution actually work in this market. Pieces written for a US or UK retail audience routinely get the AU detail wrong, so the AU framing matters.
What I write on this site
I cover the education and trading-strategy material, plus the live spread and execution testing that underpins the cost-led guides:
- The education hub — leverage, margin, drawdown, market makers, currency pairs, interest rates, market hours, and the rest of the foundation set.
- Strategy explainers: hedging, stop-loss orders, drawdown and risk of ruin, chart patterns, forex signals.
- The CFD-vs-stock explainer.
- The live spread, commission and execution tests cited on lowest spread forex brokers, lowest commission forex brokers and ECN forex brokers — run from a London VPS using IceFX SpreadMonitor on the broker’s MT4/MT5 server.
Justin handles the broker reviews, the comparison guides and the methodology side. The split keeps the editorial voice consistent across both halves of the site.
How to reach me
The fastest way to reach me on an education or trading-strategy question is the contact page. I read every message that comes through the editorial inbox. For broker-specific questions (a rating, a spread claim, a regulatory detail), Justin is the right person.
