About me

I’m Noam Korbl, and I co-founded CompareForexBrokers with Justin in 2014. We’d both been trading forex since our teenage years in Melbourne, long enough to remember dial-up spreads of five to eight pips on EUR/USD and the era when a “trading platform” meant software installed from a CD-ROM. This same frustration drove the site: every broker comparison page on the open web was written for affiliate revenue rather than for the trader sitting down at the screen. The way we keep that separation enforced today is set out on the why trust us page.

Eleven years on, the editorial split between Justin and me has settled into something clean. Justin runs the broker testing, the rating model, and the comparison content. I run the education and trading-strategy side: the explainers, the strategy walk-throughs, and the foundation pieces you actually need before opening a live account. We share fact-checking duties with David Levy, our Head of Content.

I trade my own account the way you’re likely trading or planning to trade: medium-frequency swing trades on majors, with AUD pairs over-represented because that’s the part of the market I know best. Running a fund, selling signals, and taking payment to mention a strategy or platform in any explainer aren’t things I do.

Why I focus on education

For most new Australian retail traders, the friction isn’t choosing a broker. It’s understanding what you’re choosing between. What 30:1 leverage actually means when you’re sitting on a 0.25-lot EUR/USD position. Why a stop-loss order is not the same as a guaranteed stop. What “negative balance protection” does and does not cover. Why a 5% drawdown looks small until you understand the maths behind risk of ruin.

The bar I set for an education explainer on this site is plain: you should be able to read a page once and use the concept correctly that same week, even if you’ve never opened a forex account. Complex topics (chart patterns, hedging, margin maths) go longer. Simple topics stay short. We don’t pad to hit a word count.

The Australian regulatory context frames everything on the education side. ASIC’s Product Intervention Order shapes how leverage, margin, bonuses and dispute resolution actually work in this market. Pieces written for a US or UK retail audience routinely get the AU detail wrong, so the AU framing matters for the trades you’d place here.

Education and trading-strategy material sits with me, as does the live spread and execution testing that underpins the cost-led guides:

• Strategy explainers: hedging, stop-loss orders, drawdown and risk of ruin, chart patterns, forex signals.

• The live spread, commission and execution tests cited on lowest spread forex brokers, lowest commission forex brokers and ECN forex brokers, run from a London VPS on the broker’s MT4/MT5 server. Our September 2026 capture used our own CFB-SpreadLogger 1.1.0, which read each broker’s bid and ask once per second and kept one record per minute; the May to June 2026 figures on those pages were collected by Noam Korbl using IceFX SpreadMonitor tick medians over rolling 24-hour captures.

Justin handles the broker reviews, the comparison guides and the methodology side. The split keeps the editorial voice consistent across both halves of the site, so the same measured approach holds for an explainer or a broker review.
