Our Australian forex broker reviews cover 33 ASIC-regulated brokers, and we live-tested 28 with our own money. Each review checks the AFSL on ASIC's register, plus fees and platforms. Spreads we measure carry their capture window, and our latest capture ran from 5 to 9 October 2026. Reviews refresh at each capture and on fee or licence changes.

Brokers appear in alphabetical order, A to Z, so the table is a directory of every broker we review rather than a ranking. The latest spread capture column names the most recent dated capture window that our cost data holds for that broker, either "5 to 9 October 2026", "September 2026" or "May to June 2026", and "None on record" means our cost data holds no dated capture for that broker, even where its review reports an earlier or separate reading. Noam Korbl leads the programme behind these captures. For the ranked order, see our ranking of the best forex brokers in Australia.

How we built this list

Every broker on this page holds an Australian Financial Services Licence. Offshore-only brokers are not listed here, regardless of how attractive the leverage offer looks. I’d put it this way: an offshore account offers 500:1 leverage and lighter onboarding at a Vanuatu or SVG-regulated firm, while an ASIC account returns segregated client funds at an Approved Australian Bank, AFCA membership, mandatory negative balance protection, and a complaint that you can actually pursue.

A total of 33 brokers cleared that initial filter. Each is then scored against eight weighted criteria, with trading costs and trust carrying the most weight. We run the testing cycle on live accounts funded with our own money and record what happens. That live-account cycle has run on 28 of the 33. Trading 212, TMGM, Totality and MultiBank Group have no funded account of ours and are scored on the same criteria. I want you to know that no broker pays for placement or scoring adjustment. Some brokers pay an affiliate commission when readers open an account through this site, which is disclosed on every review.

The full scoring methodology lives on the methodology page. The category ratings on each review page are the inputs, so you can check any overall score yourself. We take the weighted average of those sub-scores on the weights in the table, rescaled over the criteria a broker carries, out of 100.

Broker reviews by trader type

The cards below group our broker reviews by trader need, from beginners and low spreads to MT4, MT5, cTrader, TradingView, copy trading and automated trading. Each card links to the guide that ranks the brokers for that need, where the verdict sits, and the full A to Z directory of all 33 reviews is in the table above. If you trade on a specific platform, I would start you at that card; if you are still weighing your options, the beginners card is one place to begin.

How ASIC regulation changes the broker shortlist

ASIC’s Product Intervention Order caps retail traders at 30:1 leverage on major forex pairs, 20:1 on minor pairs and gold, 10:1 on other commodities, 5:1 on shares and 2:1 on cryptocurrency CFDs, a hard boundary that applies to every Australian account. Negative balance protection is mandatory, cash bonuses to retail clients are banned, and every AFSL holder must be a member of AFCA for retail dispute resolution.

For you, the 33 brokers on this list deliver almost identical regulatory protections. The differences that matter are spread quality, platform features, customer service and execution speed. Trust scores cluster tightly because every broker here clears the AFSL bar.

I want to flag one nuance. Some global brokers operate multiple entities: CMC Markets, IG Markets, Pepperstone, Vantage and Plus500 all hold a UK FCA entity and an Australian ASIC entity. A signup from an Australian IP address, verified against an Australian address, puts you on the ASIC entity by default. The ASIC 30:1 leverage cap and the negative balance protection rules then apply, even where the broker also runs a Saint Vincent or BVI-regulated entity for international clients.

A small number of brokers also offer wholesale-client accounts on offshore entities, for traders who pass the Corporations Act wholesale tests: broadly, net assets of at least A$2.5 million, or gross income of at least A$250,000 in each of the last two financial years, certified by a qualified accountant. IC Markets and Vantage each have offshore group entities alongside their ASIC licensee. At Vantage, an Australian wholesale client is classified on the elective Pro account under AFSL 428901. I would not recommend that path for most retail traders, because the leverage upside rarely outweighs the ASIC protections you would give up.

Every broker in the A to Z directory above holds an ASIC AFSL, and offshore-only brokers are not listed. As I see it, the protections you surrender with an offshore account (AFCA dispute recourse, segregated funds at an Approved Australian Bank, mandatory negative balance protection and the leverage caps) outweigh the higher leverage on offer.

How our forex broker reviews are tested

Every review rests on the funded live account where we hold one, at 28 of the 33 brokers we rank, the broker’s own documents and ASIC’s register. Noam Korbl ran our 5 to 9 October 2026 spread capture, the full trading week from the market open at 7am AEST on Monday 5 October to the close at 7am AEST on Saturday 10 October 2026, using our own CFB-SpreadLogger 1.1.0, which read each broker’s bid and ask once per second on one MetaTrader terminal per broker from our London VPS servers and kept one record per pair per minute, covering all major sessions. The trading experience rating rests on my desk’s judgement of each broker’s platform and trading conditions. Our customer service rating works the same way, so you know both scores are editorial assessments rather than measured tests.

Once a year we re-rate every broker from scratch, and we refresh reviews at every spread capture we run and whenever a fee or licence changes. You’ll see an update if there’s a regulatory action by ASIC, a change in AFSL status, an ownership change, a major platform release or retirement, a fee restructure, or a notable security incident.

If you want the full detail, the methodology page lays out the weight tables and testing protocols.

Forex broker review FAQs

How many forex brokers operate in Australia?
Around 50 entities hold an AFSL with permission to deal in derivatives covering CFDs and margin forex. We rank 33 of them, and you'll find those 33 on this page, chosen for retail availability, established operating history and depth of forex-specific offering.
How do the reviews assess a broker's track record?
Trust and regulation takes 20% of every score, drawn from AFSL status, years operating in Australia, AFCA membership, parent listing and any enforcement history. Each review shows a dated ASIC register check of the broker's AFSL and legal entity, and draws on our full-text sweep of the ASIC newsroom covering 36 months to 16 October 2026 across all 32 Australian licensees then covered. An ASIC licence is not an endorsement and guarantees no returns.
Can I trust the broker reviews on this site?
Yes. Our reviews are written by traders, edited by David Levy, and fact-checked against ASIC's Professional Registers Search and broker PDS documents before they go live. Some brokers pay a commission when readers open an account through our links, but that does not affect our scoring decisions.
Do I have to use one of the brokers on this list?
No. We list 33 ASIC-regulated brokers because I believe ASIC regulation matters for Australian retail traders. The protections you give up by going offshore are worth more than the leverage and bonuses on offer at unregulated brokers.
How often are reviews updated?
We refresh every review at each spread capture and whenever a fee or licence changes, and re-rate every broker from scratch once a year. The "Last updated" date on each review shows when it was last edited.
